Petition against the proposed Re-organisation of the Secondary Cycle in European schools

European schools system

European schools system is like a never-ending maze of paperwork and bureaucracy.

It’s as if they believe that the more forms you fill out, the smarter you become. Secretary general and deputy secretary general are too busy worrying about their pensions and summer vacations to actually produce anything useful.

It’s a system where children are just tiny cogs in a big bureaucratic machine, and education takes a backseat to administrative tasks.

It’s time for a major overhaul, because right now, the European schools system is about as effective as a chocolate teapot.

Dear parents,

Sign the Petition: As announced on our website and following other initiatives undertaken by parents, I invite you to read and sign the Petition below, intended to draw the attention of the Secetary-General of the European Schools, M. Kari Kivinen, and the Members of the Board of Governors to the concerns and objections of parents of all the European Schools to the proposed reforms of the Secondary Cycle. The Petition is the result of an initiative taken by and organisepetitiond jointly by representatives of the parents at Brussels 1, 2, 3, 4 and Luxembourg 1 and 2 Schools.

You will find the text of the petition on http://www.schoolsponsoring.nl/espetition/ under “The Petition Letter” at the top of the Home page.

Additional information events on 15 and 18 November

While it has still not been possible to receive an answer to our questions regarding secondary reform in writing, the Secretary General has recently become very active in offering oral information sessions. Two more sessions will now be organized by the Commission (cf. below).

Please attend them numerously, raise your questions and express your concerns, in addition to signing the petition and lobbying your national representatives. Of course, APEEE appreciates very much this offer, however we think that in an administration oral answers cannot replace the necessary written assessments and guarantees concerning such a far-reaching reform.

· Why will there be no prior full-fletched assessment of the pedagogical impact and effects which such a far-reaching reform will have upon all levels of the school: primary, S1-S5 and S6-S7?

· How can be claimed that all sections, big and small, will get the same offer if a minimum number of pupils is required before a course will be offered in a certain language even within the filière system?

Kind regards,
Wolfgang Münch
President APEEE Brussels II

Aim of the European Schools

Educated side by side, untroubled from infancy by divisive prejudices, acquainted with all that is great and good in the different cultures, it will be borne in upon them as they mature that they belong together. Without ceasing to look to their own lands with love and pride, they will become in mind Europeans, schooled and ready to complete and consolidate the work of their fathers before them, to bring into being a united and thriving Europe.
